“Now Isaac pleaded
with the Lord for his wife because she was barren; and the Lord granted his
plea.” Genesis 25:21
God made a
promise to Abraham and said that those promises were to come through his son
Isaac. Those promises concerned progeny numbering as many as the stars in
heaven. Isaac and Rebecca had been married twenty years and still had no
children. So Isaac sought the Lord and pleaded for the promise to be fulfilled
for future generations.
Isaac was praying for future generations that would lead
to the first Advent of the promised Deliverer. The New Testament ends with a
similar prayer, only this one is a prayer for the second Advent. As Isaac
prayed for the Deliverer to come, so we are to pray that He will return and do
it quickly. “Even so come, Lord Jesus.” Rev. 22:20 Amen.
Dear Father, Let us hold fast to the promises made to
our fathers. Amen.
