“Be
fruitful and multiply: fill the earth.” Genesis 1:28
For the next few weeks we are going
to be looking at the subject of missions. This verse from Genesis is a great
place to start. Missions isn’t something that came along as a new idea after
the resurrection, it has been the heart of God from the beginning. God, the God
of Adam and Eve, told them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
Since He was the God of Adam and Eve, He then would be the God of the whole
earth.
When Adam sinned God did not cease
being God. He did not cease being the God of the whole earth. Through Adam’s
sin all men had now been born with the same sinful nature and all men needed
the same redemption that Adam needed. Everywhere men dwelt there was the need
of redemption so that they could know God and worship Him. World missions to
share the redemptive story began the day Adam and Eve were evicted from the
Garden and began to dwell over the face of the earth.
Dear Father, Help us to see that all
need You. Amen.
