“Am
I my brother’s keeper?” Genesis 4:9
I hear people ask, “Is it really my
responsibility to tell others about Christ? Isn’t that the pastor’s job or the
missionary’s job?” Well the answer is a triple yes. It is each person’s job, the
one in the pew, the one in the pulpit, and the one directly sent to do so. We
are all our brother’s keeper.
In the book of Ezekiel God appointed
the prophet to be a watchman over Israel. Israel was a rebellious house and
needed to be warned of God’s impending judgment. All mankind is in rebellion
against God and all the world needs a watchman to warn them of God’s judgment.
That means that the call to be a watchman falls upon all who desire to hear and
obey God. So, yes, we are our brother’s keeper and yes we are to share the
Gospel of Christ that all mankind might know how to be saved from their
certainly deserved judgment of breaking God’s laws.
Dear Father, Fill us with love for
our neighbors and give us watchmen’s’ hearts. Amen.
