Common Ground in a Diverse Community

Also the cow and the bear will graze; their young will lie down together.” Isaiah 11:7
There are those, like me, who believe in a true millennial reign of Christ on earth. There are those who believe in simply the reign of Christ over a blissful state forever. Those two positions have two things in common. Christ is the first. His second coming is the second. Both positions are supported by this passage in Isaiah. Chapter eleven begins with the earthly appearance of Christ and his preaching ministry. The middle of the passage deals with His judgment and punishment of the wicked. The next part deals with His kingdom.
Those are three things the Church agrees on. Some people lose sight of all the things we have in common in Christ. They focus on differences and become antagonistic to opposite views on specifics. Christ called us to be one in Him as He is one with the Father. This passage gives us a lot to find in common. It reveals that we are truly one in Christ in spite of our differences.

Dear Father, Let us never lose sight that Christ alone is the center of our faith. Amen.
