Who Gets to Be God?

For you have said in your heart, ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God’.” Isaiah 14:13
We would all agree that this verse represents a very arrogant attitude. But it is not an attitude that is uncommon among men. Everyone who says in his heart, “there is no God”, has just made himself god instead. Every man who says that the word of God is not true has just claimed authority above God who declares that it is true. Every man who says, “I have not sinned”, has just made himself the judge of sin and displaced God from being judge.
But thanks be to God that He has made provision for such foolish and arrogant thoughts. He has sent His Son to die for the sins of mankind that all who will believe in Him may have their sins forgiven and not perish. When we stumble in our minds and revert to thoughts that are totally unbecoming, we have a Savior who will forgive when we confess.

Dear Father, Our foolish pride is often too great. Thank You for the gift of Your Son for us. Amen.
