“But
the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy.” Genesis 39:21
Here is a recurring theme in the
story of Joseph – the Lord was with him. How many times have we sighed and
wished that the Lord was with us too? Now let’s see. Joseph was rejected by his
brothers, but the Lord was with him. Joseph lived and worked like a slave, but
the Lord was with him. Joseph was lied about and thrown into prison, but the
Lord was with him.
The Lord’s presence with us is not
defined by how successful we are or how much others respect us. As Stephen was
being stoned in Acts 7, Christ stood to receive him. The Lord was with Stephen.
Our circumstances don’t define whether or not the Lord is with us. God’s word
defines the truth about this. Jesus said, “Lo,
I am with you always.” Hebrews reminds us that God has said, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”
In our times of greatest frustration let us remember that the Lord is with us.
Dear Father, Thank You for the
promise to be with us always. Amen.
