“And
Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters.” Numbers 26:33
There are many cultures and various
religions where this circumstance, that of having no sons, would result in
financial loss to the daughters of the family. But God is concerned with all
His children, not just the male ones. So, Moses took the daughter’s concern
directly to God. What will we do with these women? Do they have rights? Can
they inherit property? Are they considered equal citizens? Moses didn’t have an
answer, so he asked God.
God said, “Thou shalt surely give
them a possession of an inheritance.” Wow! Women were really important to God.
There was no searching around for a cousin or uncle or distant relative. God
said, “The inheritance is theirs.” This isn’t just true of property; it is also
true of spiritual inheritance. Christ said, “Come unto me ALL ye that labor and
are heavy laden.” Women are just as bound in sin as men and need the spiritual
inheritance of Christ equally with others. And, praise God, they are given it.
Dear Father, Thank You for giving an
equal inheritance to all Your children. Amen.
