“And
Deborah, a prophetess, judged Israel at that time.” Judges 4:4
Has there ever been a time that
hasn’t been a difficult time? We think of the “good old days” and forget that life
expectancies were short, diseases weren’t curable, and things we take for
granted were unheard of. There have been periods when things seem to have been
better, but it wasn’t the norm. In Israel that was also true. There were brief
periods when all was well and long periods when it wasn’t.
Deborah lived in a really bad time,
a time that God wanted to make good, and she was to be his vehicle. She would
support God’s work, undergirding it with her wisdom and God given gifts. That
kind of time still exists. God has called his people to undergird those who go
into the fight for truth. God wants all the Deborah’s of His church to support
with prayer, love, and compassion those workers who strive daily in the ongoing
fight against the devil. Deborah is our example to support God’s soldiers in
daily spiritual warfare.
Dear Father, Give us all hearts like
Deborah to support those who strive for truth. Amen.
