“And
they called Rebekah, and said unto her, ‘Wilt thou go with this man?’ And she
said, ‘I will go’.” Gen. 24:58
In Acts 16 we find the Philippian
jailer falling at Paul’s feet and saying, “What must I do to be saved?” Being
told to “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”,
he does so immediately. There is a prelude to that account. Paul was in that
man’s prison and while there he was giving constant testimony about and praise
to Christ. The jailer’s question to Paul was not random. He had seen and heard
and then he believed and obeyed.
Rebekah has the same story. She met
Abraham’s servant who told her about the father and the son. He told her that
the father wanted her to marry the son. He gave her ample proof of the fact.
When asked whether she believed it or not, to go or not to go, she believed and
obeyed. She married the son of the promise. What a wonderful testimony she is
of God’s grace.
Dear Father, Thank You for inviting
us to marry your Son and may we be faithful to invite others also. Amen.
